International Trucks are known for their toughness and reliability. From hauling heavy cargo across vast highways to conquering demanding off-road terrains, these machines are the backbone of countless industries. But with International Trucks gracing roads worldwide, a question often pops up: where exactly are these ubiquitous workhorses built?

The answer, like the trucks themselves, is multifaceted. While International Trucks have a rich history of American manufacturing, Navistar, the company behind the brand, has strategically expanded its production footprint to cater to diverse global markets.

A Legacy of American Manufacturing and Global Leadership

The story of International Trucks is deeply intertwined with the United States. Their journey began in 1909, and for many years, American factories churned out these iconic vehicles.  With approximately 14,500 employees worldwide, Navistar is a leading manufacturer of commercial trucks, buses and engines,  proudly claiming the title of one of the largest manufacturers of Class 4 through 8 trucks and buses in North America. Navistar utilizes state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and operates under lean principles that make operator jobs safer and more efficient.  Their dedicated manufacturing teams are on the frontlines building these incredible vehicles, working collectively to competitively produce them, run the plants efficiently, and ultimately win in the market.

A Look Inside Navistar's Manufacturing Powerhouse

Navistar's commitment to quality and innovation is evident across its strategically located manufacturing facilities:

HUNTSVILLE POWERTRAIN MANUFACTURING PLANT (Huntsville, Alabama):  This technologically advanced facility is a powerhouse for building top-quality powertrains.  The highly flexible assembly line utilizes error-proofing and in-process quality audit stations to ensure every product meets their exceptional standards.  The Huntsville Plant supplies vital components to vehicle assembly plants in both Springfield, Ohio and Escobedo, Mexico

ESCOBEDO ASSEMBLY PLANT (Escobedo, Mexico): Since opening in 1998, this plant has become a prolific producer of Class 8 vehicles, constructing more units than any other manufacturing plant in Mexico.  They also manufacture subassemblies that feed not only their own production lines but also other Navistar plants in the U.S.

SAN ANTONIO MANUFACTURING PLANT (San Antonio, Texas): This industry-leading facility, opened in 2022, exemplifies Navistar's commitment to the future.  The 900,000-square-foot plant efficiently builds high quality Class 6 through 8 diesel and electric vehicles.  It boasts a general assembly line, body shop, paint shop, logistics center, and even a truck specialty center for making aftermarket modifications on-site.
